Whispering Gallery‐Mode Microdroplet Tensiometry

چکیده
Interfacial Tension In article number 2100129, Gregor Pirnat and Matjaž Humar demonstrate a simple, fast, very precise technique to measure time dependent interfacial tension between two immiscible liquids based on whispering gallery modes in micrometer droplets. The optical enable measurements of the droplet size as well refractive index one fluids.

Microfluidic Dynamic Interfacial Tensiometry (μDIT).
We designed, developed and characterized a microfluidic method for the measurement of surfactant adsorption kinetics via interfacial tensiometry on a microfluidic chip. The principle of the measurement is based on the deformability of droplets as a response to hydrodynamic forcing through a series of microfluidic expansions. We focus our analysis on one perfluoro surfactant molecule of practica...
متن کاملIn situ force-balance tensiometry
Although a fundamental physical parameter, surface tension is difficult to measure. Common tensiometry inaccuracy comes from failure to control air—liquid—solid contact conditions, or account for liquid meniscus geometry and buoyancy corrections. This paper describes an in situ tensiometry technique, based on withdrawal of a thin-walled tube from the liquid interface, that enforces a known air—...
متن کاملRechargeable Aqueous Microdroplet.
Directional and controllable transportation of microdroplets is critical for emerging micro- and nanotechnology, in which the conventional mechanical energy generation is not applicable. This Letter shows that an aqueous microdroplet can be charged for controlled motion in electrostatic potential, which was created by differentiating pH, between two oil/water interfaces. The directional motion ...
متن کاملTemperature controlled tensiometry using droplet microfluidics.
We develop a temperature controllable microfluidic device for the accurate measurement of temperature dependent interfacial tensions between two immiscible liquids. A localized temperature control system is integrated with the microfluidic platform to maintain an accurate temperature inside the device. The temperature uniformity and sensitivity are verified by both simulation and experimental r...
متن کاملMicrofluidic approach for rapid multicomponent interfacial tensiometry.
We report a microfluidic instrument to rapidly measure the interfacial tension of multi-component immiscible liquids. The measurement principle rests upon the deformation and retraction dynamics of drops under extensional flow and was implemented for the first time in microfluidics (S. D. Hudson et al., Appl. Phys. Lett., 2005, 87, 081905 (ref. )). Here we describe in detail the instrument desi...
